Built In Evans Mills, For Fort Drum
American Tattoo Society opened its Fort Drum studio in 2023 and made it the biggest in the North Country — set on US-11 in Evans Mills, minutes from the gate and an easy run up from Watertown. The 10th Mountain Division is one of the most deployed divisions in the Army, and the soldiers and families who serve it deserved a studio that didn't require a trip to Syracuse for work they could trust.
Why We Opened Here
Fort Drum is the North Country: home of the 10th Mountain Division, tens of thousands of soldiers and family members, and a deployment tempo that has defined the post for two decades. Before we arrived, serious custom work often meant an hour-plus drive. We brought award-quality tattooing and professional piercing to the gate itself — because a soldier on a four-day shouldn't have to spend half of it on I-81.
Clean, Private, Professional
Every station runs hospital-grade: single-use needles and tubes, autoclave-sterilized equipment, hospital disinfectant between every client, and bloodborne-pathogen-certified artists. Private booths are available for cover-ups, larger placements, and anyone who wants their session off the main floor. North Country winters are hard; our standards are harder.
Walk-Ins & Appointments
Walk-ins are welcome every day we're open, first-come first-served — built for short pass windows and unpredictable training schedules. For larger custom work, booking ahead guarantees your artist and your slot, which matters when you're planning a sleeve around a JRTC rotation or block leave. Consultations are always free.
Custom Work Is The Standard
Bring a reference, an idea, or just the story. The Fort Drum crew works across American Traditional, black & grey, realism, color, fine line, lettering, Japanese, cover-ups, and the military and memorial work that a division with 10th Mountain's history carries. Piercings run daily, lobes to dermals.
The Atmosphere
Warm shop, cold winters — machines buzzing, flash on the walls, and straight answers at the counter whether it's your first tattoo or your fortieth. No attitude, no gatekeeping. Come see why Fort Drum made us the busiest studio in the North Country.

Serving Fort Drum & New York
American Tattoo Society Fort Drum sits on US-11 in Evans Mills, right outside the post in the heart of Jefferson County — the North Country stretch between Lake Ontario, the Thousand Islands, and the Adirondack foothills that the 10th Mountain Division calls home. We're the first serious tattoo floor you hit off post, minutes from the gate. Our clients come from across the Drum footprint: on-post housing and Evans Mills itself, Watertown and Black River down Route 11, Carthage and West Carthage by the east side of post, Philadelphia and Antwerp to the north, and the lake towns from Sackets Harbor to Clayton. Wherever you are in the North Country, you're a short, plowed drive from a chair.

Drive In From Anywhere Near Fort Drum
The North Country's hub city is a straight shot down US-11 or I-81 — most Watertown clients are in our chair in about fifteen minutes. Soldiers living downtown, families off Arsenal Street, and civilians alike make us the quick trip instead of the Syracuse haul.
Get Directions →Black River sits between Watertown and the post, which makes us barely a detour — about ten minutes up Route 11. Walk in on a whim or book after work; either way you're home before dinner.
Get Directions →The Carthage side of Fort Drum — home to plenty of 10th Mountain families — runs Route 3 to Route 11 and lands at our door in about twenty minutes. First tattoos, family pieces, and full sleeves all make the trip.
Get Directions →The Route 11 towns north of post are practically neighbors — Philadelphia is about twelve minutes up the road. For the soldiers and families settled north of the gate, we're the closest professional studio there is.
Get Directions →The lake and river towns — Sackets Harbor, Clayton, and the Thousand Islands crowd — make the drive in for custom work worth the scenery on the way. Book ahead for weekends, especially in summer when the river calls.

“Absolutely beautiful shop! Seriously 10/10 my husband and I both got beautiful pieces done very clean very professional and thorough. On top of amazing work the atmosphere is so family like everyone in there is beyond nice we had our four kids obviously kept in the front area but they were so sweet and kind to my kids even gave them temporary tattoos! I will not go to another tattoo shop! Best experienced ive had by far!!”
“Did a walk for two small matching tattoos and was not disappointed. Very professional setting and very clean. Victor even made my daughters feel included with their own “tattoo”. Definitely recommend.”
“At 84, this was my first tattoo. Thank you Osvaldo for my ankle bracelet. You are quite the artist! I love it!”

Questions From Fort Drum
Walk-ins welcome, consultations always free. Can't find it? Start a Tattoo Talk and a real artist answers.
What's the closest tattoo shop to Fort Drum?
American Tattoo Society is right outside the post at 26183 US-11 in Evans Mills — minutes from the gate. For most of Fort Drum, we're the closest professional studio, period.
Do you take walk-ins or do I need an appointment?
Both. Walk-ins are first-come first-served every day we're open — built for short pass windows. Booking ahead guarantees your artist and slot for larger custom work. Consultations are always free.
Do you offer financing for military?
We offer in-house financing for active-duty military — get the tattoo you want now and pay it off over time. Bring your military ID and ask at the counter.
What ID do I need?
Valid government-issued photo ID proving 18+ — driver's license, state ID, passport, or military CAC. We card everyone, every time.
How old do I have to be?
18 with valid photo ID for any tattoo — New York law does not allow tattooing minors, even with parental consent. Some piercings have different rules for minors; call ahead.
Is there parking?
Yes — free parking right at our US-11 location, steps from the door, plowed in winter.
Can I get tattooed before a rotation or deployment?
Yes — build in about two weeks of clean healing before field time. Sweat-soaked layers, ruck straps, and cold-weather gear rubbing a fresh tattoo will cost you ink. Tell your artist your timeline; we plan around the training calendar daily.
Does winter affect tattoo healing?
Cold itself doesn't hurt a healing tattoo — but dry North Country winter air does. Follow the aftercare moisturizing routine religiously between November and April and your piece will heal just as clean as a summer tattoo.
Can military spouses and dependents get tattooed here?
Absolutely — spouses and dependents 18+ with valid ID are half the shop on any given Saturday. Matching pieces, homecoming tattoos, and family names come through every week.
Do you do cover-ups and memorial tattoos?
Yes to both. Bring an old tattoo in for a free cover-up consultation. Memorial work is sacred ground here — 10th Mountain has carried real loss, and we take all the time those pieces need.
