Built In El Paso, For Fort Bliss
American Tattoo Society came to El Paso in 2021 and built the city's largest tattoo studio on Montana Avenue, minutes from Fort Bliss — an easy run from the Buffalo Soldier and Cassidy gates. Fort Bliss soldiers had one of the Army's biggest installations behind them and deserved a studio scaled to match: more chairs, more artists, more walk-in capacity, zero drop in standards.
Why We Opened Here
Fort Bliss is home to the 1st Armored Division — Old Ironsides — and one of the largest military complexes in the country, with soldiers rotating through on orders, NTC rotations, and deployments year-round. El Paso itself is a proud border city with a deep tattoo culture of its own; black and grey fine-line work was practically born in the Southwest. We opened here to serve both: the soldiers and families of Bliss, and the Borderland community that's been collecting ink for generations.
Clean, Private, Professional
Every station runs hospital-grade: single-use needles and tubes, autoclave-sterilized equipment, hospital disinfectant between every client, bloodborne-pathogen-certified artists. Private booths are available for cover-ups, larger placements, and anyone who wants their session off the main floor. Being the biggest studio in El Paso only matters if the standards scale with it — ours do.
Walk-Ins & Appointments
Walk-ins are welcome every day we're open, first-come first-served — and with El Paso's largest floor, our wait times beat what a shop half our size can offer. For larger custom projects, booking ahead locks in your artist, which matters when you're planning a sleeve around a gunnery rotation or block leave. Consultations are always free.
Custom Work Is The Standard
Bring a reference, an idea, or just a feeling, and your artist designs for your body and your story. The El Paso crew works across black & grey (a Southwest specialty), realism, color, American Traditional, fine line, lettering, Japanese, cover-ups, and military and memorial pieces. Piercings run daily, from lobes to dermals.
The Atmosphere
Big floor, busy machines, straight answers at the counter — bilingual, welcoming, and proud of both flags this city lives between. No attitude, no gatekeeping. Come see why Fort Bliss and El Paso both call this place theirs.

Serving Fort Bliss & Texas
American Tattoo Society El Paso sits on Montana Avenue in the heart of the Borderland — the desert corridor where Fort Bliss, the Franklin Mountains, and two nations meet. We're minutes from the Buffalo Soldier and Cassidy gates on one of the city's main east-west arteries, with the biggest tattoo floor in town. Our clients come from every corner of the region: the Fort Bliss housing areas and Northeast El Paso, the East Side and Mission Valley, Horizon City and Socorro down the valley, Chaparral and Las Cruces across the state line, and the West Side out toward Canutillo. Wherever you are in the Borderland, you're within reach of a chair.

Drive In From Anywhere Near Fort Bliss
The Northeast is Fort Bliss's front yard — Railroad District housing, soldier neighborhoods, and family homes minutes from the gates. From most of the Northeast, US-54 to Montana Ave puts you in our chair in about fifteen minutes. Walk in on a pass or book around the training calendar.
Get Directions →The East Side's neighborhoods off Montana, Zaragoza, and Montwood are our home turf — many clients are practically neighbors. It's a quick run up Montana Ave for walk-ins, piercings, and consults any day of the week.
Get Directions →The fast-growing communities down the Mission Valley — Horizon City, Socorro, and San Elizario — send us families, first-timers, and serious collectors alike. Loop 375 to Montana makes it an easy twenty-five minutes, with free parking when you land.
Get Directions →Just across the state line, Chaparral is home to plenty of Bliss soldiers and Borderland families who make the run down War Road or US-54. About thirty minutes door to door for custom work worth crossing a state line for — which, around here, barely counts as a trip.
Get Directions →Las Cruces and the Mesilla Valley crowd — including White Sands Missile Range personnel — make the I-10 run for El Paso's largest studio. Forty-five minutes each way earns a booked appointment: consultation, session, and back over the pass by dinner.

“Enjoyed my experience with the folks at ATS. Very professional and polite from start to finish. I recommend and would go back.”
“Got my first tattoo here, staff were very friendly, helpful and flexible, did great work, recommend hitting them up for some work, also nice merch, caps, t’s and silkies!!!! ”
“Just went in for a quote and left with a tattoo. I recommend this place especially for service members. They will tattoo you within the regulations of your particular branch, but if you're retired like me you're good, lol. Place is clean, professional and having guest artists from different locations is cool. I'll be back.”

Questions From Fort Bliss
Walk-ins welcome, consultations always free. Can't find it? Start a Tattoo Talk and a real artist answers.
What's the closest tattoo shop to Fort Bliss?
American Tattoo Society is minutes from Fort Bliss at 4842 Montana Ave — a short drive from the Buffalo Soldier and Cassidy gates. Most soldiers reach us in about ten to fifteen minutes.
Are you really El Paso's largest tattoo studio?
Yes — the biggest floor and one of the deepest artist benches in the city, which means shorter walk-in waits and more style range under one roof.
Do you take walk-ins or do I need an appointment?
Both. Walk-ins are first-come first-served every day we're open. Booking ahead guarantees your artist and slot — smart for larger pieces or specific artists. Consultations are always free.
Do you offer financing for military?
We offer in-house financing for active-duty military — get the work you want now and pay it off over time. Bring your military ID and ask at the counter.
What ID do I need?
Valid government-issued photo ID proving 18+ — driver's license, state ID, passport, or military CAC. We card everyone, every time.
How old do I have to be?
18 with valid photo ID for tattoos — Texas doesn't allow tattooing minors except for medical coverage reasons, so plan on 18. Some piercings have different rules for minors with a parent present; call ahead.
Is there parking?
Yes — free parking at our Montana Ave location, steps from the door.
Does the desert sun affect a new tattoo?
It's the single biggest factor in El Paso. Keep a healing tattoo covered and out of direct sun entirely, then sunscreen for life on exposed pieces — Borderland UV is no joke, and it's the main thing that fades ink here.
Can I get tattooed before the field or an NTC rotation?
Yes — with about two weeks of clean healing time built in. Sweat, dust, and gear friction are a healing tattoo's enemies, and Bliss has all three in surplus. Tell your artist your timeline; we schedule around training calendars daily.
Can military spouses and dependents get tattooed here?
Absolutely — spouses and dependents 18+ with valid ID are a huge part of this studio, along with El Paso's own deep tattoo community.
